Scientists and environmental activists are alarmed at the ongoing expansion of the dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico, which is already the second largest dead zone in the world. A coalition of environmental groups has sued the EPA in an effort to force the agency to work to mitigate pollution causing the dead zone.
